Over-the-Road Drivers

There are many types of people in the trucking industry. During this session, we’ll focus mainly on the long-haul trucker; however, many of the points are applicable to any type of trucker, and we will point them out as we go.

Objectives

Upon completion of this session, you will be able to:

  • Outline general history and information about the industry
  • Determine when an over-the-road trucker is an employee vs. independent contractor
  • Differentiate the types of income and expenses
  • Understand when heavy vehicle use taxes and state highway-fuel taxes apply
  • Identify documentation to support deductions during an audit
